While Fidel Castro halted development in the 1960’s, he simultaneously preserved iconic hotels and colonial towns just now being restored. The artistic influence on the island is a diverse cultural blend of African, South American, European and North American elements, reflective of the diverse makeup of the Cuban people. The time warp may soon be over with ever changing travel policies, the influx of American tourism and rapid international development.Preserving the Cuban Arts will be more important than ever.
In this OhThePeopleYouMeet series, Michaela brings together experts in all things Cuban Culture. The panel will discuss fine and performing arts,first hand experiences with Cuban artists, research of the UNESCO historic city centers and sustainable organizations that are working to preserve the Cuban arts both on and off the island.

Five years ago, Michaela Guzy founded OhThePeopleYouMeet a content site and video series for travelers, foodies and philanthropists with a passion for a genuine connection with the locals people she meets. Today OTPYM has over 100 contributors across the globe and 62,000 fans on Facebook. In June of 2012, she started Michaela’s Map, an original web video series she writes, produces and hosts, which is currently distributed on sites like YahooTravel, Everett Potter, The Daily Meal and of course OTPYM channels and directs and produces commercial video work for the industry.
Michaela is the Director of the Board of Advisors for Travel+Social Good and serves as the Corporate Vice Chair for The New York Center for Children. In addition to speaking at various International Luxury Travel Market conferences and Adventure Travel Trade Association Summits, Michaela curates content for T+SG during Social Media Week, NY Travfest, WeWork and Soho House. In a past life, Michaela, served as the VP/Global Travel and Strategic Development at American Express Publishing overseeing sales and marketing for blue-chip travel accounts for Travel+Leisure, Food&Wine, Departures, Executive Travel, Black Ink and Time Inc. brands.
